Sussex Wedding Band - Get On Up - FAQs

How much space do you need?

As we are quite flexible we can work around most spaces to get the best out of any venue! Typically we would need around a 5x3 metre space, however we can squeeze in depending on the situation, after all we are close friends!

How is it best to time things?

Get On Up can be in constant contact to make sure that we are perfectly timed on your night to best suit your party or wedding! Typically, we find that 2 x 60 minute sets work best, starting at 9pm and 10:30pm. We can play background music before and after we play – and from when guests arrive if necessary. We usually suggest arranging the band sets around the food – as this is the most common error we experience in timing of events!

Can I pick the bands playlist?

With our experience playing for a variety of functions and weddings, our set will often change depending on the recommendations of the client. We will have a set-list crafted specifically to get the party going and a full dance floor! Get on Up are more than happy to have a few songs that you specifically want added into the set or taken out of the set to make your event as special as we can!

Where will you travel to?

Get On Up are a Brighton based band, but we are happy to travel and bring our unique sound to your event!

Can I see you play live?

The majority of gigs that we play at are weddings and corporate functions, which are unfortunately not open to the public. However we do occasionally play a pub gig every couple of months which we could use for parties who wish to come along to before the event itself!

Will you learn our special song?

We will learn a song of your choice for first dance or as part of our set if we feel we can re-create the track to a high standard. We can also play extra songs that are not normally in our repertoire with enough notice; however there may be an extra charge for these tracks. We are always adding new songs to our repertoire so please ask if there is a specific song you want.

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

It most certainly is! Get On Up are professional musicians who love what they do and take pride in putting on a great show! The bands agency (www.alivenetwork.com) also have a full live video of a showcase we did at a local venue which you can watch at your leisure!

How do I book you?

The best way to book Get On Up is through the contact page on this website, or through our agency. You can also email or call our booking agents on 0845 108 5500 or email us at Getonup@alivenetwork.com

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

We bring a device with an extensive library of music to every gig and we will play music before our set and during the interval. It’s all part of our commitment to keeping your dance floor filled for as long as possible!

Can we make DJ requests in advance to my event?

If you have any specific DJ requests we will able to download these to our library beforehand at no extra cost as long as there is enough notice. We will try to be as accommodating as we can!

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

Depending on the timings of your day, Get On Up can let their PA be used for speeches. We don’t use radio microphones so this should be factored in when arranging speeches.

Do you have lights?

Get On Up have a simple and effective 2x LED light bar setup – meaning they can setup in small spaces but still look great!

How long do you play for?

We usually play 2x one hour sets, however, this can also be divided into three 40 minute sets if you prefer. They have enough songs in their repertoire for more, and this can be negotiated if desired.

What time do you start and finish?

The usual finish time for bookings is midnight; this means that Get On Up will finish all music inclusive of DJ sets and background music by that time. Curfews for the performance of music can often be dictated by the venue so it is always worth checking when speaking with a venue as they may specify an earlier finish time. There is no problem for us to finish later or earlier, the band work with all their clients to accommodate such requirements and will be able to quote based upon this information.

How long do you take to set up?

The band takes approximately one hour to set up all the equipment and can do so discreetly at a time suitable for your event.

Can I provisionally book you?

Unfortunately, due to the high demand of Get On Up it is not possible to make a provisional booking, however you can create an enquiry through our website that will generate a quote. This way, you will be given first refusal on the date if another enquiry comes in for the same day.

What if the band split up before my event?

This is highly unlikely as all members of the band are performing professionals who rely on the contracted work as their primary source of income. Get On Up work with the UK's largest and best agency and thoroughly enjoy what we do and are specifically set up to entertain for events like yours!

In the super unlikely event that the band splits up, every effort will be made to source a band of the same quality, calibre and style to ensure you big day goes off with a bang.

Can my sisters/bosses/daughters dog sing with your band?

We are often asked if it is ok for a guest appearance on stage, or use of equipment for speeches, etc. All we ask is that it is all organized with us before the night so we can be aware of what will happen during the performance.

What will the band wear?

Get On Up dress in an attire to fit the occasion of the day. We would usually wear suits/formal wear for weddings and more smart casual dress for functions. However, if you have any specific requests e.g. a theme for your event, then please don't hesitate to let the band know prior to the day and we will try our best to do so!

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

All of our equipment has annual PAT testing carried out by a professional safety team in the South East. Certificates are available on request.

Do Get On Up have any specific requirements?

We only have a few requests for the event. We would ask for a separate room to change in and access to it from our arrival until we leave the venue. You will need to make sure that we are provided with adequate power points, or you may need to hire separate generators if in a marquee. Also for some food to eat and drinks for the duration of their stay at the event would be greatly appreciated as sometimes the band can be travelling for the majority of the day and plan our day around you!

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

Get On Up have played a whole variety of venues in the past, country manor houses, marquees, barns, boats, large outdoor stages, beer festivals, small intimate venues to private homes.

How loud will the band be?

Get On Up are flexible and accommodating – they always work with clients to ensure that the band is of a level in which people can enjoy the music being played and others in the room are able to have a conversation. However, as a four piece band with acoustic drums, guitar, bass and keyboard amps it is only possible to reduce the levels down so far without it affecting the performance.

A live band has a different dynamic to that of recorded music played through a PA system, and so this should all be taken into account when looking at a venue. Some venues have installed dB limiters which can affect the bands ability to perform without hindrance. If your booked venue has a dB limiter please let the agent know this when making your enquiry as it is highly likely that we (or one of our fellow Alive Network bands) have performed at the venue in question. In any case it is worth mentioning this information to the agent as we want to ensure that we can provide you with an uncompromised performance.

If it turns out that the limiter is set to an exceptionally low setting it is always possible to come up with solutions to this, such as acoustic sets performed in a live lounge style. This ensures that you still get the music you want and can dance too just at a lower level.

What is the band power requirement?

The band ask that you provide a minimum of two double 13 amp plug sockets close to the stage, ideally at either side of the stage / performance area. The Colts typical power consumption during a gig is low as their equipment is modern and efficient, however the band like to run their LED stage lighting from a separate source to our audio equipment to avoid any interference that it may cause. As a general rule the more power sockets you can provide close to the bands performance area the better.

Do Get On Up offer any additional services?

Get on Up are a 4 piece band with four male vocals and a keyboard. This allows us to give an authentic reproduction of the songs we play without compromising on the overall sound of the track. We do however, offer an acoustic option if you want some background music for during dinner or at a drinks reception.
